Top 5 Signs Indicating That You Need A New Cooktop

Cooktops are one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. Just like any other household appliance, there will come a time where your cooktop may show signs of breaking down. In some instances, it might cost more to replace it than getting a new one. In this article, we will list the top 5 signs indicating that you should get a new cooktop instead of replacing it.

Burners Not Heating Up Properly

Whether is it an electric or gas cooktop, the burner is definitely one of the most essential elements on the cooktop. For those who are using a gas cooktop, if the flame produced is not blue or sparks from red to blue to yellow or flickers, you should clean the burner caps and grates. It could be that some of the particles are the reason why the flame is flaring. However, if your cooktop is clean and the flame is still not blue in color, it could be time to repair or replace it.

For those using electric stoves, do note that the coils should be bright red when turned on high. If not, you should check for any rust or other signs of corrosion. If you have an induction cooktop, you can heat up a small amount of water in an induction-safe cookware. If the water is not boiling within a few minutes, your cooktop could be malfunctioning. You should take a look at your manual to check if this problem can be easily fixed on your own. Otherwise, it may be better to get a replacement.

You Smell Gas

If you smell gas, remember not to turn on the stove. Gas is the first sign of leakage somewhere between the stove and the gas tank. Hence, if you smell gas either before or after turning on the gas tank, you should not turn it on. Instead, switch off the gas tank immediately. After which, turn on the exhaust or open your kitchen windows, check the tubing which connects your stove with the gas tank, and attach and reattach the tubes and regulator.

The Control Panel Does Not Work

In an electric stove, the control panel is probably the most expensive element to replace. When the buttons are no longer functioning when pressed, you will not be able to cook properly on the cooktop. This means it is time for you to replace the cooktop entirely.

Crack on the Surface

If the electric stove includes a tempered glass top and you notice a crack on it, there is nothing you can do to fix it. Simply get a replacement. It is no longer safe for you to cook using that anymore.

It Does Not Turn On

Gas stoves that no longer turn on could have faulty spark igniters. You can fix this with a gas lighter. For electric stoves, it is important to check the wiring. Any loose wiring might potentially be a fire hazard and you should have it fixed as soon as possible before using. However, any broken wiring must be replaced and may need either a new unit or a replacement. For this issue, you can consult the manufacturer to see what their recommendations are.
