Installation Tips For Freezers

Have you just purchased a new freezer and wondering how to go about installing it? Or maybe you already know how to install it, but you wonder if there are some important tips you should take into account prior to getting it to start functioning? A freezer is one of the simplest and easiest household appliances to install as it can be plugged into a standard wall electrical outlet. A freezer generally has an extremely long life cycle, which means that the installation is long term. Once it is placed and begins operating, the freezer is difficult to relocate, although not impossible. Hence, it is important to spend some time to think about a good place to place the freezer in the beginning.

Read the Instruction Manual

Before you get started and unpack the new appliance, do take out the installation manual and read it through first. It is important that you understand the layout and specific instructions before getting started on the installation process.

Remove the Packaging

After you have done so, you can remove the packaging. Use a knife or scissors and dispose of the packaging. You will need to remove the Styrofoam, the cardboard box, and the nylon around your freezer. Remember to take away the stick tape inside as well.

Prepare the Plug

Once you have removed the packaging, unwrap the plug so it is ready to be plugged into the socket for the freezer. You can pull the cord and keep it unwrapped by taping it to the side of the fridge, so it does not dangle around the sides and no one will trip on it. For fridge freezers, make sure it is plugged in and the socket is switched off before moving the unit into place.

All fridge freezers have to be left to settle with an isolated power. The instruction manual will state the exact time it has to be left for. Majority takes approximately 12 hours to adjust to the correct temperature after the switch is turned on. Once the fridge freezer is standing for a reasonable period, you can then turn it on at the mains.

Ensure the Space is Flat

When installing a fridge freezer or chest freezer, level is very important. Before installation, you should aim to get an accurate tolerance of the allocated space you are planning to install the appliance. The longer it is, the more critical it is for the space to be level. For floors that are not entirely level, a liquid leveling compound can be very useful.

Move the Appliance into Place

Depending on whether your unit is a fridge freezer or walk-in freezer, you should move either the fridge or freezer to its allocated spot in the kitchen. It is not too challenging or difficult to just slide the appliance on the floor. However, if you need to move it up or down the stairs, working gloves and lifting straps will be useful. Moving such a heavy appliance up and down the stairs can be pretty dangerous, and you should leave this job to the delivery personnel whenever possible.
